Digital Portraiture

As I mentioned in an earlier blog post I have started working with a Wacom pen and tablet set. I used Photoshop to create this art work. I would like you to check back periodically to see any new art work that I post.

The piece below is of one of the world's most well known personalities. Nelson Madiba Mandela. I am posting two versions of this art. Another well known figure is the Sixties civil rights activist Dr.Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. King's portrait was also created with the Wacom Intuos tablet and pen set and Photoshop.



Maya Angelou is an iconic figure in American culture and history who recently passed into the ages. I wanted to do a digital art piece that would be a tribute to her amazing life. Again I used the Wacom Intuos pen and tablet combo and Photoshop to create this art. I am just getting started with this type of art so check back with this blog to see updates. Jimi Hendrix is certainly an iconic personality in the genre of rock and roll. From high school and afterwards too this guy continues to be one of my favorite musicians. In the genre not many compare to this guy.

Abstract Art

I have some art to put here that is different from most of the art you've seen displayed on my art blog so far. I like all different types of art. Abstract art is very cool and is a way of expressing myself that is liberating. It goes beyond the bounds of realism.

Before I show the first piece of art I want to show this video. The video talks about a horrific chapter of slavery that I just recently found out about. The video is self-explanatory.

Mass Graves Remain in "The Devil's Punchbowl"

The name of the following piece of art is "A Well Developed Root System" and is an abstract piece of watercolor art that I actually painted even before I watched the above video. The irony about the video is that the soldiers mentioned in the video were not confederate soldiers but Union soldiers.



Misty mountains is a view of a mountain landscape on a day when there was a covering of mist. This is an abstract version.



The art below is another one of my abstracts that I just call Abstract 2. It is comprised of different elements in different sections of the art. I try not to get into the habit of explaining my art. It doesn't always work.You be the judge.



There are times when I work on a piece of art and I look at it again and again and some how it just doesn't look right so I put it down. I may come back to it weeks or months later and it just looks totally different.

The art piece below is an abstract that was done using the computer. I call it Rain Drops. I use a Wacom pen, Photoshop, my laptop and Android tablet to create most of my digital art work. I recently was given an iPad Air as a gift and I am learning new ways to create digital art on that device as well. In a future blog posting I will be showing my digital portrait collection that is growing as I find the time to create more art pieces.



This is an other piece that I painted with acrylic paint. I call it only Abstract 1. I have more abstract art coming. I have abstract art that I will not be able to show at this times because they are very large format pieces and I am unable to scan them because they are so large. But look for paintings of my largeger paintings in a separate blog space.

Visual Experiences

I have some new artwork to publish on my blog. I am very psyched about my art. It is opening up new horizons for me. I did a pastel of a flower for a friend. This is the first piece of art that I've done that focuses on flowers. I don't think it will be my last. I titled it Summer Flowers."





I did an acrylic painting of a night time ocean scene that I think is kind of cool. It has a full moon reflecting off of the ocean which I also think is cool. The accrylic painting below was given to a friend. The original was at least. Sometimes giving away your artwork is an effective method of marketing believe it orr not. Because giving your artwork away ensures that more people will see it on someones wall.

African American Portraiture

I like doing portraits of interesting faces. I have chosen a few for this part of my blog. I hope you enjoy them Please make comments. There are some faces you may recognize and some that will not be familiar at all.
The image below is a pastel painting I found a photo of a Black woman on web and used it as a reference image to create a new piece of art. I hope you'll like it. As usual the paintings and drawings posted here are for sale.



The image below is a pastel of a Black youth. I liked the expression on this kid's face. Yes, he is a kid who probably is from an urban environment. I named him Master Guy. It just seemed appropriate.

Eartha Kitt is another famous entertainer. She may be relatively unknown to a younger generation but she played Cat Women in some of the Batman series episodes of the 70s I believe.

The following drawing I created as a tribute to Trayvon Martin. I see in the world that there is a lack of value for the lives of Black people and especially Black males. I call the following pastel drawing "Can You Hear Me Now."


I had a bunch of uncles when I was a kid. Some of them were my favorites. One of them was the oldest uncle at the time. He was uncle Jack. He was my gandmother's oldest brother. On special family occasions I had the tendency of hanging around the older people. Uncle Jack would pull me aside. He would say, "come here boy. I want to give you a piece of money." Sometimes it would be a quarter and at other times he would give me a dollar. If it was a quarter it would be enough to buy a bottle of Pepsi and a Tastykake lemon pie. Anyway the following pastel drawing is my rendition of my uncle Jack.



I love the colors in this next pastel drawing. The different tones of brown and tan feel very warm and welcoming. And the model is gorgeous too. I call this one "The Singer."

Nature and Wildlife Fine Art

I have new additions to my art blog. I am loving the way my art develops as I become more familiar with the different techniques, mediums and tools that I have been using to create my art. I primarily use pastels for painting, graphite pencils and colored pencils. I am now beginning to use water colors and acrylics for painting.

I have new artwork to post today.  The new art pieces are pastel paintings. This is the Lion of course. This is a pastel drawing. Cats are fascinating animals and this one is the top predator or I should say one of the top predators on the continent of Africa. Of course all of these art pieces are for sale.



The image below is a pastel of a mallard duck of course. I was at a park called Green Lane in the Germantown section of Philadelphia PA, USA. I took a photo of the duck and used it for reference when sketching and pastel paiting this piece.

I have new art work to display here. I have been having a great time painting with acrylic paints. I will continue creating wild life art. I love animals and sea life has always intrigued me. This first painting is of a clown fish. Took me a few weeks to finish this one.

This one of the starfish is probably my favorite. I like the colors on the two starfish.


Earlier this year I did a drawing for my former pastor. I have not seen him in quite a while to give it to him. But will be mailing it to him shortly. The drawing of Bald Eagle took a few weekss overall to complete. I still have not decided what I'd like to create a collection of art on. I need a topic or a theme to get started on that track.
